CAPS: COMFORTABLE & CONFIDENT
So when someone recently asked me which one is my favorite, I honestly had to smile. The truth is, I don’t have just one. I have favorites for different moods, different outfits, different days. They all bring something a little different to the table.
Today though, I want to share one I’ve been reaching for again lately as we move into fall. It’s a tweed cap I’m wearing in the photo here, and I can already tell it’s going to be in regular rotation this season.
It’s from D&Y and made from a blend of wool and polyester. I’ve had it for years now, and it’s one of those pieces that just quietly holds up over time. No fuss, no drama—just reliable and easy to wear.
Since it’s wool-based, I’ve also learned a bit about how to care for it properly over the years. I don’t do anything complicated, just a gentle, careful wash when it needs it:
I start by filling a bowl with cold water and adding a small amount of mild detergent—something like Woolite works well. Before fully washing it, I’ll do a quick spot test just to make sure the colors stay where they’re supposed to. If everything looks good, I let the cap soak and rest in the solution for about 30 minutes. After that, I rinse it thoroughly in cold water to get rid of any leftover detergent, then gently press it between a clean towel to remove excess water. Finally, I let it air dry flat in a cool, shaded space—never in direct sunlight.
Simple steps, but they really help it last.
What I love most about caps in general is how easy they are to live in. I can let my hair fall naturally underneath, or pull it back into a ponytail depending on the day. There’s no overthinking it. And honestly, I tend to run a little cold, so especially as the weather cools down, a cap becomes more than just an accessory—it actually helps regulate my body temperature too.
So in my world, it’s kind of a win-win. It pulls an outfit together, keeps me warm, and adds just enough personality without trying too hard.
Caps are one of those simple things that make me feel both comfortable and confident at the same time—and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that combination.
